Equity and Inclusive Design
As we know all students are different. They come with different cultural backgrounds, personalities and ,they have different accommodation needs. My goal as a teacher is to help develop a learning environment that focus on themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Celebrating our diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, and identities makes us that much brighter as humans and learners. Below you will find several artifacts that support my goals and future strides toward equity and inclusive design.
Awareness of Student Diversity
English is not always a students first language. According to the Texas Tribune, more than 400 of 1,208 public schools in the state of
Texas were more than 50 percent Hispanic last school year, 572 were more than 50 percent white, and 40 were more than 50 percent black. Times are changing and schools are required to have more accommodations for students and parents. Below you will find a video permission slip in English and Spanish that was required before performing any lesson in student teaching.

I conducted a personality test on myself to find out how diverse I am. It’s important to know the type of personality you have as a teacher since you will be socializing with students and parents. The test said I have slight preference of judging over perceiving, which is something I need to work on as a future educator. Perceiving things and making judgements off those perceptions, some perception may be negatively influence or even wrong. The Myers and Briggs foundations says the goal of knowing your personality is that we can appreciate the difference of other personalities. I couldn’t agree more with that it’s important that we celebrate our differences as it brings us closer. Its also important to know your students personalities. Knowing students personalities can help with grouping and learning techniques.

Individualized Lesson Plan
Students have every different learning styles. As a teacher I want to be able to adapt to every learning style so that I can adapt to every student. Its always important to promote student choice and input. An individualized lesson plan is a method of teaching in which students have a choice of learning style. I have created a ILP (Individualized Learning Plan) for an 8th grade math class on the topic of transformations. The students where learning translations, dilations, reflections and rotations. Each student had a choice of 3 of 4 options on how they wanted to be assed. Below I included a presentation and breakdown of what learning style the students picked, student work, and what I could have done better.
