Teachers have a daily influence on the lives of children, teachers are often held to high standards. In the midst of all of their responsibilities, they're required to serve as strong role models and demonstrate ethical behaviors as they interact with students, colleagues, parents and others. Developing and following a professional code of ethics helps make sure teachers act in a professional and ethical manner at all times. Teachers must maintain ethical behavior in professional practice by accurately representing and maintaining certifications, licenses and other qualifications. Its really important to maintain and uphold standard for the safety of children. Parents want to be assured all students are safe and being treated fairly. This section includes how I stay current on teaching procedures, how I adjust teaching after receiving feedback, and gives my plan on handling parent interactions. Lastly, this section will include how the Code of Ethics applies in my classroom.

Staying Current
Teacher development is the cornerstone of new teachers. It is critical for all teachers to have ongoing and regular opportunities to learn from each other. Ongoing professional development keeps teachers up-to-date on new research on how children learn, emerging technology tools for the classroom, new curriculum resources, and more. The best professional development is ongoing, experiential, collaborative, and connected to and derived from working with students and understanding their culture. Below I have included an article research summary that was proved during my apprentice teaching. The research summary is over how to better questioning and different techniques to use when teaching. I also have included a certificate for a dyslexia training that I completed during my apprentice teaching. These two artifacts show how I am continuing to develop professional with teaching and for the safety of my students.
The Importance of Feedback
Feedback is an essential component of effective change. Within the teaching profession, there is always change. Seeking feedback, giving feedback and receiving feedback is one of the most effective tools we have for harnessing and promoting change, so that it is to our benefit. Just as on the global level, feedback is an essential component of effective change, and therefore improvement, and one of the roles of any good teacher is to seek to improve things. Effective feedback helps individuals to understand what they did well and what they could do better. Once we know what is good and what isn’t, we are able to adapt our behavior and work to improve it. Thus, feedback is a key tool for improving both individual and team performance.
Below I have include a comment made by my mentor teacher during a lesson in my apprentice teaching. The feedback suggested that I work on my questioning techniques and gave me a different approach to introducing the foil method.
After receiving feedback about questioning, I went back and reed the recommended articles on effective questioning and before a lesson I created questions and back up question. Below is a comment my mentor teacher made after I implemented the feedback given.
Parent Teacher Communication.
Positive parent-school communications benefit parents and students. The manner in which schools communicate and interact with parents affects the extent and quality of parents' home involvement with their children's learning. its also beneficial for parents to be involved in their children's education by getting ideas from school on how to help and support their children, and by learning more about the school's academic program and how it works. Perhaps most important, parents benefit by becoming more confident about the value of their school involvement. Also, by having more contact with parents, teachers learn more about students' needs and home environment, which is information we can apply toward better meeting those needs. Good communication is necessary for students success.
I plan to implement a class website that will have the class syllabus, needs, and procedures, and also a direct contact source for parents to my email. I also hope to send each parent a end of the week email the lets them know of any behavior mishaps and a preview of what's to come in the following week. Below is a calendar that I sent home to my students parents during student teaching. Each student received a copy of my weekly calendar that listed homework and class assignments for each week. The student was required to get it signed and turn it the following Monday.
Its important when communicating with parents that a teacher discuss positive things as well as things that could be worked on by the student. Below is a follow up parent phone conference that was held a few weeks after a face to face parent conference. This conference was conducted during my apprentice teaching at Troup middle school for a school culture assignment.
Contributing to school, district, and community
During my apprentice teacher I made it a point to attend every staff development meeting, department development meeting , and conversations on the direction of the school. Below is an artifact that shows my professional development achievements and strides to enhancing my professional communication. There is three comments the first of which shows I am Accomplished and the other two shows that I am proficient in the professional development area.
